Abstract

This paper delves into the concept of Assessment for Learning (AfL) and focuses on the practical applications of formative assessment within educational settings. Assessment for Learning is an approach that emphasizes the role of assessment in enhancing student learning and understanding. It differs from summative assessment by its emphasis on providing feedback that aids in student improvement and guiding instructional processes. The paper explores various formative assessment practices that educators can implement to foster a more dynamic and responsive learning environment. These practices include the use of quizzes, class discussions, student reflections, and peer and self-assessment techniques. The effectiveness of these methods in promoting student engagement, motivation, and academic achievement is discussed, along with the challenges educators may encounter when integrating formative assessment into their teaching. Additionally, the paper offers suggestions for overcoming these challenges and provides a rationale for the importance of AfL in contemporary education.
