Promoting Critical Thinking Skills through Inquiry-Based Learning

Abstract

The paper explores the efficacy of inquiry-based learning (IBL) in fostering critical thinking skills among students. Critical thinking is an essential component of academic success and lifelong learning, yet it is often underdeveloped in traditional educational settings. This study examines how IBL, characterized by its emphasis on student-centered inquiry, problem-solving, and reflection, can serve as a catalyst for the development of critical thinking abilities. Through a series of case studies, the paper analyzes the experiences of students engaged in IBL activities across various disciplines. It highlights the benefits of IBL, such as increased autonomy, deeper understanding of content, and enhanced problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges of implementing IBL and offers strategies for educators to optimize the learning environment. The findings suggest that IBL is a powerful pedagogical approach that can effectively promote critical thinking skills, thereby contributing to the overall educational development of students.
